Though convicted of just one murder, the story of HH Holmes’ 27 self-confessed murders are a central plot line in Erik Larson’s book The Devil in the White City, which is a very good book and I heartily recommend it to you. It’s one of the startlingly few books I’ve read. Here’s the cover:
